Canadian Weed Enthusiasts Should Expect To Pay Just Over 10 Bucks For A Gram Of Legal Pot

Going fishing with your grandpa and his glaucoma north of the border this summer? Well, open up your wallet and get the poor bastard some safe and legal marijuana.

According to Vice, you should expect to pay roughly 25 percent more for a gram of legal weed this year after all of the government’s taxes are accounted for, but research suggests that many Canadians are gladly willing to pay that much to get their hands on something that is not only legal but also safe compared to the mixture of pencil shavings and ground-up tree bark they were getting from their shady dealers.

“I think Canadians will end up paying a higher price — but that’s mainly because you’re getting something safe and regulated compared to what’s out there on the black market,” Vice-President of Business and Government Relations at Cannabis Compliance Deepak Anand said.

That price is around $10.30 for a legal gram, but further research suggests that Canadians would be willing to pay up to $14 for a gram of the legal herb before going back to the grab bag of rough shit from their dealer. The consulting firm Deloitte also believes Canadian weed enthusiasts are “likely to move nearly two-thirds of their purchases to legal channels, even though they might have to pay at least 10 percent more per gram post-legalization.”

That’s good news for the Canadian government and of course anybody who invested their kid’s college fund in Canada’s pot game.
